What is urgent care? Urgent and Walk-in Care is the treatment of minor illnesses and injuries in a medical facility that generally provides after-hours and walk-in medical care. These are facilities that do not require an appointment and are outside of a hospital-based emergency room (ER). Urgent Care and Walk-in Centers are typically open 24 hours a day. They typically provide the same services as your family or primary medical care doctor. Most of these facilities are capable of providing excellent care at a cheaper cost than an Emergency room can. Most urgent care centers offer: general medical care, occupational medicine, x-ray's, lab's, vaccines, school and sports physicals and limited on-site prescriptions. They are especially convenient when you cannot wait for an appointment or your doctor is unavailable, say on vacation. What do Urgent Care Centers generally treat? Generally, they can treat most everyday injuries and illnesses. Urgent Care can treat everything from colds, flu and lacerations to fractures, sprains and some dislocations. They conduct immunizations, sports physicals, EKGs and x-rays, and can perform minor surgical procedures, stitches and labs and can administer IV fluids. Can I use urgent care for things like a checkup or simple blood work?
